The Fore States Championship is an annual team match play event between Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma.
History
In 1995, Edell Wortz from Hardscrabble CC in Fort Smith, Arkansas, a life-long supporter of women’s and girls’ golf in the United States, donated the Wortz trophy and organized the first Fore States Championship in Bella Vista, Arkansas.
Format
The Fore States Championship is a two-day annual event with a Ryder Cup format combining four-ball, foursomes, and singles matches. Each state alternates as the host state.
Team Selection
The four member states of Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, and Missouri each field a 12-member team competing in three divisions: The Amateur (34 and under), Mid Am (35-54), and Master (55 and up). Each state is on a four-year rotation to host this event. Based on Player of the Year points and two captains' picks per division are selected for the Fore State team.
Team selections for each year will be based on Player of the Year Point Standings:
- Amateur ( 34 and under)
- Mid-Am ( 35-54)
- Masters (55 and up)
