History

2024 marked the 12th playing of the Southern Junior Cup and the first time that the RTJ The Shoals Country Club had hosted the competition. Team Alabama won the 2024 title and has won every Southern Junior Cup since 2016. The Championship was first played in 2012, with Team Oklahoma winning the inaugural event. Alabama replaced Oklahoma in 2016 and has won every year since it joined the field. Southern Junior Cup matches were not played in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Format

The Southern Junior Cup is a Ryder Cup-style, co-ed team competition involving four states: Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Alabama. The format consists of 18 holes of match play with four-ball, foursomes, and singles match play sessions.  Each match is worth 1 point. A half point is awarded to each side for a tie. Each state competes against the other three states in an equal number of matches.  Four-ball and foursomes partnerships consist of one male and one female per side, while individual matches pit male vs. male and female vs. female.

Team Selection

The top three players on the Simmons Bank Players of the Year points list in both the Junior Boys and Junior Girls Divisions as of July 3rd, 2026, will receive an invite. Three captain's picks will be made for each gender. The Arkansas Junior Amateur Champions will also receive an invitation, if not already qualified.
