ASGA Interns At The 2025 P.J. Boatwright Summit

Get a behind-the-scenes look at our interns' trip to USGA Headquarters!

LIBERTY CORNER, N.J. (May 23) - Hey! I'm Jenna Starks, the six-month Marketing and Communications Intern with the ASGA. Robbie Vaught, one of our Championship Administration Interns, and I just got back from an incredible experience at the 2025 P.J. Boatwright Intern Summit, held at the USGA Headquarters in Liberty Corner, New Jersey.

The summit was such an amazing opportunity for us to grow our knowledge of golf and gain insight into the behind-the-scenes of the USGA.

Our first day was packed with learning. We dove into the rules of golf, the handicapping systems, and the development process behind the GHIN app. We even had the chance to share our ideas with the app's designers on how to make it more user-friendly and accessible.

One of my favorite moments was touring the USGA's broadcasting studio, where live updates are given to the golf community. We also participated in a putting competition on the 9-hole putting course behind the USGA Museum. While I may not be qualifying for the U.S. Open anytime soon, Robbie was just one stroke away from making the top five for a chance at the trophy!

The second day, we had presentations from various USGA departments, many of which are led by former Boatwright interns. We learned about player relations and how the USGA works to create meaningful experiences for players, families, and fans.

We also explored the U.S. National Development Program, which supports US golfers by preparing them for international competition in all aspects of the game. Another highlight was learning about the growth of adaptive golf, which creates opportunities for golfers with disabilities to compete.

Though it was a busy few days, the summit left us inspired and better prepared for our current internships. It also gave us a little direction on what we might want to do in the future. We made valuable connections and built relationships that we'll carry with us throughout our careers.

We're excited to bring everything we've learned back to Arkansas and use it during our time with the ASGA!
