Julie “Jules” Oxendine of Russellville qualified yesterday to qualify for the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur at Las Colinas Country Club in Irving Texas. Six spots were available and Oxendine’s 76 earned the silver medal as low qualifier. She advances to Wichita Country Club September 25-30.

Payne & Bragg Qualify for U.S. Mid-Am
Stan Payne and Aaron Bragg, both of Little Rock, qualified for the USGA Mid-Amateur Chammpionship today at Pleasant Valley Country Club. Payne, in a steady rain most of the day, put together a solid round of 16 pars and 2 birdies to easily win the silver medal with a 2-under par 70. Bragg and Chris Houston of Collierville, TN finished with three-over par 75s and Bragg won the playoff for the second qualifying spot on the third hole of sudden death with a birdie on the par-5 18th hole. Houston is the first alternate and Joey Nichols, of Little Rock, is the second alternate with a 76. All but Houston are members at PVCC. Payne and Bragg advance to Atlantic Golf Club in Long Island, New York later this month. It is Bragg’s first USGA Championship. Payne qualified for the Mid-Am a couple of years ago at Bandon Dunes in Oregon.

Great Job Jeff & Best of Luck in Your New Job!
Jeff Slatton, Golf Writer for the Arkansas Democrat Gazette for the past few years, has taken a new job in the Public Relations Department at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hot Springs. Jeff has covered a number of ASGA Championships and Designated Tournaments and has even done some free-lance writing for the Arkansas Golfer magazine in the past and hopefully will be able to do so in the future. Yesterday, was his last official day with the ADG and he covered the ASGA Senior & Super-Senior Stroke Play at the Country Club of Arkansas. Jeff has also covered UALR basketball and has spent lots of nights and weekends away from home. His new job is five days a week, allowing him to spend more time with his family. Thanks for all the great coverage you have given the ASGA, Jeff – we will certainly miss ya!

Stan Lee Wins ASGA Senior Stroke, Glen Talbert Wins ASGA Super Senior Stroke
Stan Lee three day total of 214 was enough to defend the ASGA Senior Stroke Play Championship. Ken Golden finished 2nd with 219 total. Glen Talbert finished with a three day total of 215 to win the ASGA Super Senior Championship. Finishing 2nd was Sam McAllister with a 3 day total of 227. results

Lee , Talbert Lead Seniors & Super Seniors Stroke Play
Stan Lee repeated his first round score of 70 in the second round of the ASGA Senior Stroke Play Championship with a two day total of 140. Ken Golden is in second with a two day total of 143. Glen Talbert continued his good play shooting 68 to lead the Super Senior division by 13 with a two day total of 142.
